Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What kind of photography do you specialize in?
I specialize in documentary-style photojournalism, beautifully lit studio-style portraits—created anywhere, social gatherings and story-driven events, cinematic automotive photography, serene desert landscapes, unscripted street photography, macro details (no bugs, promise), and liminal scenes that evoke mood and mystery.

Every photo is rooted in storytelling — whether it’s a quiet desert road, a gleaming car, compelling portraits, immersive street moments, or the raw truth of photojournalism.

What kinds of printed products do you offer?
I offer a variety of archival-quality options, including wall portraits, canvas wraps, framed artwork, and custom-designed photo albums.

Each piece is designed to complement your home and preserve your memories beautifully.

Do you have a fixed studio space?
No — and that’s intentional. As a retired photographer, I prefer flexibility over being tied to a single space. I use a combination of portable professional lighting and backdrops, which allows me to create a studio-quality experience almost anywhere — whether that’s in your home, outdoors, a rented space, or on location with your car.

Not having a fixed studio also means I can adapt to each project’s needs, making every session personal and unique.

Where are you based? Do you travel?
I'm based in Tempe, Arizona, and yes — I'm available for travel across the Southwest and beyond for the right project.

Do you offer portrait sessions?
Yes, I offer portrait sessions designed around natural expression, on-location settings, and professional lighting.

Can I book you to photograph my car or motorcycle?
Absolutely! I love working with auto enthusiasts. Whether you're after bold rolling shots, detail-focused stills, or an editorial-style shoot, I’ll create images that make your vehicle shine.

What gear do you use?
I shoot with Canon full-frame and APS-C cameras, a mix of prime and zoom lenses, and specialty lighting gear. I also incorporate drone photography for cinematic aerials. Gear selection is customized on a case-by-case basis to suit each project.

Do you photograph weddings?
I no longer shoot full-scale traditional weddings, but I do offer photography for small, intimate ceremonies — including LGBTQIA+ weddings and handfasting rituals within the polyamorous community. If your day is heartfelt, offbeat, and full of meaning, I’d love to be part of it.

What is liminal photography?
Liminal photography captures transitional, atmospheric moments — often empty, still, or surreal spaces. Think of those twilight desert roads, foggy gas stations, or quiet corners that feel suspended in time.

Are you LGBTQIA+ friendly?
Absolutely. As an LGBTQIA+ photographer myself, I welcome and celebrate people of all identities and backgrounds. My shoots are safe, inclusive spaces where you can fully be yourself.

Do you offer editing or retouching services?
Yes! I offer professional photo retouching and cinematic video editing for both my shoots and select client-submitted work. Contact me with your vision and let’s bring it to life.

How can I purchase your stock photos?
You can purchase high-resolution digital downloads and prints directly from my Picfair store or contact me for custom licensing needs.

How long do you keep my photos backed up?
I take great care in how I store and protect your images. Photography is both an art and a responsibility, and I treat your files with the same respect I give to my own personal work.

I keep a well-organized archive of my sessions, including the RAW files and layered PSDs used to create your final images. These are the digital equivalent of film negatives, and they allow me to regenerate JPEGs or re-edit images in the future if needed. I don’t keep exported JPEGs indefinitely because they can always be recreated at full quality from the RAW files.

While I can’t legally guarantee lifetime storage, I do maintain long-term archives as part of my workflow. Clients may return years later if ever losing their photos and being able to restore those memories for them is always worth the space and organization it requires.

That said, I always recommend downloading your final gallery and backing it up in at least two places. My archive should never be the only copy of your images, but it often becomes a valuable safety net when life happens.

What’s the difference between a watermark and a signature?
A watermark is a large, obvious logo or text placed across an image to stop people from stealing it. It’s meant for protection, not presentation. Watermarks are intentionally distracting — the whole point is to make the photo unusable without removal.

Watermarks try to prevent misuse.

Signatures celebrate authorship.

What is a signature?
A signature is subtle and artistic. It’s the photographer’s mark, similar to how a painter signs the corner of a canvas. A signature doesn’t interfere with the image or block important details; it simply identifies the artist and honors the photograph as a finished piece of art.

Will my photos have your watermark on them?
Yes — but only during the proofing stage or for unpaid previews. Proofing images are not final artwork, and the watermark makes it clear they’re not intended for printing, sharing, or distribution.

Will my photos have your signature on them?
Yes — on final delivered images, you’ll see a small, tasteful artist’s signature. This isn’t a watermark; it’s the mark of the creator, placed the same way a painter signs a finished canvas. It’s part of my branding and part of how I present my art.

A signature doesn’t “protect” a photo from theft — anything can be removed these days — but it does allow your images to live in the world with the name of the person who created them. It’s a reminder that photography is artwork, not just a file.

Am I allowed to remove your watermark or signature?
Please don’t. The watermark on proofs identifies them as unfinished work, and the signature on final images is part of my artistic presentation — just like a painter’s name on a completed piece. Removing it (by cropping, cloning, or AI tools) alters the artwork and removes the credit that belongs with the creator.

Why don’t you watermark or sign the images in your website gallery?
My website is intentionally clean and distraction-free — like viewing prints in a gallery space. Watermarks don’t stop image theft (anyone determined can crop or remove them), so instead I protect my work with lower-resolution uploads and by offering high resolution prints and wall art through my Picfair store.

My signature is only absent from images on my website and in my Picfair store. Picfair specifically requires photographers to upload unsigned images for licensing and print options, so the artwork in both places is presented cleanly and without marks.

On social media, though, I often include my signature, so credit follows the image when it’s shared or reposted.

Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, I operate as a licensed freelance photographer and sole proprietor, and I carry full liability insurance for all client sessions. While I do not hold a commercial drone license (Part 107), I am FAA-compliant for recreational use and have completed the FAA's TRUST (The Recreational UAS Safety Test) certification. Any drone work I offer is artistic, non-commercial, and follows current FAA guidelines for hobbyist operation — not for hire or sale.

Can you provide references or a client list?
Out of respect for client confidentiality, I do not publicly disclose past clients or share private session details. Many of my shoots involve deeply personal moments or private individuals, and I prioritize their privacy above all else. I also prefer not to burden my clients with unsolicited inquiries or reference requests from potential customers. You can see client testimonials directly on my website.
